Displaced Piporam villagers flee to Senapati after arson attack

Displaced villagers from Makui Piporam village under Chalwa Police Station in Kangpokpi district have begun moving towards Senapati district headquarters, seeking safety after unidentified armed persons allegedly set fire to around 30 houses in the village during the early hours of September 1 and 2.

Several families from Piporam have taken temporary shelter at Makui Part-II, while nine villagers who had stayed back at Thonglang reportedly arrived at Senapati district headquarters this morning in search of safer accommodation.

According to the displaced villagers, the attackers opened fire and set the houses ablaze while residents were asleep. The victims said they managed to escape with only the clothes they were wearing, with their houses and belongings reduced to ashes.

The fresh displacement has further deepened the humanitarian crisis in the conflict-affected areas, as villagers continue to abandon their homes amid security concerns.
