Gunfire near Naga village in Ukhrul

About six to seven rounds of gunfire were heard fired at Sinakeithei, a Tangkhul Naga village in Ukhrul district of Manipur, from Leplen Nepali Basti around midnight.

As per the village secretary, the gunfire took place at around 12.10 am from near a cemetery at Leplen which is around 270 metres away from the village and no casualty has been reported.

“The security arrangements in the area have changed as the Maha Regiment has been withdrawn and presently Manipur Rifles personnel are posted to guard the village,” said the village secretary. According to him, although there are security forces posted in the village but firing and intimidating activities continue.

The source revealed that the gunfire took place near security forces posted at Sinakeithei and other nearby Kuki villages. However, he did not mention anyone about the person involved in the firing.

The villagers have requested the authorities to conduct an investigation and take necessary steps to strengthen the security.
