Houses set ablaze in Kailenjang Village

Unidentified miscreants reportedly set fire to several houses at Kailenjang village, located around 5 km west of Senapati Police Station, at about 1:30 pm on Monday.

According to reports, Kailenjang is a small village comprising around seven to eight households clans. The village had reportedly witnessed conflict during the 1992 Naga-Kuki clashes and displaced for some years. The village return and following the restoration of peace and later the houses has been attacked following the recent outbreak of Naga-Kuki violence.

Amid the latest clashes, several residents of the village had reportedly moved to Taphou Kuki for safety.

Residents of nearby areas said they could hear gunfire following the arson incident, although further details could not be immediately confirmed.

An Assam Rifles team reportedly reached the area following the incident.
