A devastating three-vehicle collision on National Highway-102 near Khangabok Sanilou in Thoubal district claimed one life and left seven others injured late Saturday night, police said.
The accident occurred at around 10:20 pm along the Imphal–Moreh stretch of NH-102 near the 3rd India Reserve Battalion (IRB) under Thoubal Police Station.
The deceased was identified as Ningthoujam Inaocha Singh (38), son of Subol, a resident of Heirok Part-II, Chingdompok. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
According to police, an i20 car carrying three occupants was travelling from Wangjing towards Thoubal when it collided head-on with a Maruti Van carrying two occupants and a Honda Activa scooter carrying three persons, both of which were approaching from the opposite direction. The impact resulted in all three vehicles crashing into one another.
Two occupants of the i20 sustained injuries and were identified as Naorem Inaocha (44), son of Chinglentombi, a resident of Heirok Chingdompok, and Biken, son of late Tomal, a resident of Heirok Part-II, Chingol.
The injured occupants of the Maruti Van were identified as Moirangthem Pradip (26), son of Deban, and Nongthombam Dasa Singh (20), son of Yaima, both residents of Tellou.
The three persons travelling on the Honda Activa who sustained injuries were identified as Md. Suhail Abbas (24), son of Md. Habibur Rahman; Md. Jamal (32), son of late Abdul Zamar; and Md. Imran (37), son of Yakub Ali, all residents of Bengoon Salam Bazar in Mayang Imphal.
All seven injured persons were rushed to Thoubal District Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and seized the three vehicles involved for further investigation. The body of the deceased has been sent to the JNIMS mortuary for post-mortem examination.
