The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) on Thursday organised an academic awareness programme at Wangkhei High School, Imphal East, as part of its observance of the 61st Realisation Month.
Speaking at the programme, AMSU Vice President Naorem Wangamba highlighted various issues affecting students and society, stating that many of the challenges confronting the State persist because capable and educated young people often fail to take responsibility and contribute meaningfully to society.
He stressed that students should understand the problems facing society and actively participate in addressing them. Education, he said, should not be confined to the prescribed syllabus alone but should also include knowledge of one’s history, identity, culture and social values to enable students to become responsible citizens and contribute to nation-building.
AMSU Vice president Wangamba further observed that education loses much of its purpose if the knowledge and values acquired are not applied for the welfare of society and the nation. He urged students to cultivate a broad outlook and a strong sense of social responsibility.
The programme also focused on the ongoing Census process. AMSU informed that until the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated and issues relating to the settlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are properly addressed, the union, along with the JFD and other supporting organisations, will continue to work collectively to safeguard the interests of the people.
The awareness programme was attended by AMSU Vice President Naorem Wangamba, Wangkhei High School teacher Sunil Dutt Sharma, AMSU General Secretary Salam Changkhonba, Library and Documentation Secretary Nongthongbam Abinash, members of the AMSU Imphal East District Committee, faculty members of Wangkhei High School, and students.
