CM inaugurates Ima Market, 2 bridges in Andro

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed Ima Market at Andro and two bridges over the Thoubal River at Khungdongbam Mapa and Wangkhem Siphai Leikai in the presence of Andro MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described Andro as a place of immense historical, cultural and tourism significance, stating that the government is committed to its development. He announced a sanction of Rs. 10 crore for the construction and improvement of inter-village roads in the constituency and assured that a dedicated office for the Andro Municipal Council would also be established.

Describing Andro as the pride of Manipur, the Chief Minister said that the area is renowned for its natural fire, attracting researchers and visitors from different parts of the country and abroad. He further remarked that Andro is one of the oldest settlements in Asia with immense historical and cultural significance, and therefore deserves focused attention for its preservation and development.

Referring to the ethnic conflict that has continued for nearly three years, Khemchand said peace remains the foundation of development and appealed to all communities to cooperate in restoring harmony. He expressed hope that Manipur would once again witness the peaceful coexistence that prevailed before May 3, 2023.

MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar said development in Andro had slowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the prolonged conflict, but expressed confidence that developmental activities would accelerate under the new government.

During the programme, various local organisations and welfare bodies submitted memoranda to the Chief Minister seeking improved road connectivity, construction of a Municipal Council office, retaining walls, appointment of primary school teachers and other developmental projects for the constituency. Senior government officials, public representatives and local residents attended the function.
