The Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), Jiribam District Committee, on Sunday organised its first district-level essay competition as part of the build-up to the observance of the Martyrdom Day of Pebam Chitaranjan Mangang on August 16.
Held under the theme “A Voice Against AFSPA,” the competition was organised in memory of Pebam Chitaranjan Mangang, who self-immolated in protest against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in Manipur.
A total of 120 students from Classes VIII to XII representing various schools across Jiribam district participated in the competition, expressing their views on the subject through essays.
MSF Jiribam District Committee president Thokchom Samananda Singh said the competition was organised to honour the memory and sacrifice of Pebam Chitaranjan Mangang ahead of the annual Martyrdom Day observance. He said the initiative was intended to help students understand the historical significance of the issue while encouraging them to articulate their perspectives on AFSPA through thoughtful and constructive writing.
