ACOAM-Lup observes 26th Foundation Day

The All Club Organisation Association and Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM-Lup), Kangleipak on Thursday observed its 26th Foundation Day with humanitarian activities and a renewed call for decisive measures to resolve the ongoing conflict in Manipur.

According to a statement issued by Angouton Khuman, Secretary, Information and Public Relations of the organisation, ACOAM-Lup President Sanjit Soraisam led a team to various children’s homes, where food items, educational materials and other essential supplies were distributed. A commemorative function was later held at the organisation’s headquarters.

Extending greetings to the indigenous communities of Manipur, the organisation appealed for unity among all indigenous groups to safeguard their collective interests.

Commenting on the ethnic conflict that erupted on May 3, 2023, ACOAM-Lup alleged that the violence was initiated by what it described as “Kuki narco-terrorists” and claimed that many Meitei people had sacrificed their lives defending the state. It further alleged that the prolonged crisis could have been prevented had decisive action been taken at the outset.

The organisation criticised both the Central and State Governments over their handling of the conflict, alleging that inadequate intervention had allowed the violence to persist. It also questioned the continued deployment of central security forces, alleging that they had failed to effectively protect vulnerable villages from attacks.

ACOAM-Lup further alleged that concerns over cross-border infiltration continue despite the abolition of the Free Movement Regime (FMR). It also criticised the role of the Assam Rifles in border management and called for stronger measures to secure the Indo-Myanmar border.

The organisation also sought expeditious investigation and prosecution of those responsible for crimes committed during the conflict and called for the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons by facilitating their return to their original homes.
