Nambol MLA Th. Basantakumar has urged the youth of Manipur to take up entrepreneurship as a means of strengthening the state’s economy, stating that the changing global economic landscape demands greater participation from aspiring entrepreneurs.
The MLA made the remarks while inaugurating New Era Diamond, a jewellery and gemstone showroom, at the Temporary Market near the Irawat Statue in Nambol today.
The inaugural function was attended by former Rajya Sabha MP and former BJP Manipur Pradesh President Ksh. Bhabananda, Vice Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Board W. Dineshchandra, and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Basantakumar said Manipur’s economy has suffered considerably since the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023. He said both the government and the public must work together to revive economic activities and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Calling on young people to become entrepreneurs, the MLA said self-employment and business ventures could play a vital role in generating employment and revitalising the state’s economy. He observed that success in business requires dedication, perseverance and the ability to earn the confidence of customers through quality service and professional conduct.
Speaking on the occasion, proprietor of New Era Diamond Meitram Guna said the showroom was established with the long-term vision of developing Nambol into a diamond trading hub comparable to Surat and Mumbai, India’s leading centres for the diamond industry.
He expressed hope that Manipur would eventually emerge as a prominent diamond hub in Asia.
