RIMS Nurses condemns violence inside RIMS complex, expresses concern over patient safety

The RIMS Nurses Association (RNA) has strongly condemned the violence that occurred inside the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) complex yesterday, expressing concern over its impact on patients, healthcare workers and the hospital environment.

Speaking to media persons, RNA Executive Member Salam Roma Devi said RIMS serves as a premier healthcare institution where patients from all communities come to seek medical treatment. She stressed that the hospital should remain a safe and peaceful space dedicated to patient care and medical services.

Referring to the incident, Roma Devi said a mob had gathered inside the hospital premises, following which security personnel reportedly used mock bombs and stun bombs in an attempt to control the situation. She stated that the use of such measures within a hospital complex created an atmosphere of fear and panic, particularly for critically ill patients undergoing treatment.

According to the RNA representative, the incident endangered the well-being of patients and attendants and disrupted the normal functioning of the healthcare facility. She noted that many patients admitted to the hospital require constant medical attention and a calm environment for recovery.

Roma Devi further expressed concern over the large deployment of security personnel within the RIMS complex since the incident, stating that the presence of armed forces had created what she described as a “war-like atmosphere” inside the institution.

She also pointed out that many nurses and hospital staff felt uncomfortable and apprehensive about reporting for duty amid the prevailing situation. The association said such circumstances could adversely affect healthcare services and the ability of medical personnel to perform their duties effectively.

The RNA urged the authorities concerned to ensure that hospitals remain free from violence and disturbances so that healthcare workers can continue providing uninterrupted medical services to patients.
