FoH urges communities to preserve inter-community harmony

The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has called on communities across Manipur to preserve the spirit of brotherhood and unity, expressing concern over recent incidents that could strain relations among various ethnic groups living in the hills and valleys.

In a statement issued by its Vice President, Dr. Heera Kabui, the organisation said Manipur’s diverse communities have coexisted peacefully for generations despite differences in ethnicity and social backgrounds. It, however, warned that certain recent developments appear to be aimed at weakening the longstanding bonds of mutual understanding and harmony.

The Federation alleged that various forces have, over the years, attempted to create divisions among communities, often aided by vested interests. It also claimed that declining public confidence in both the State and Central Governments has contributed to growing concerns among the people.

Referring to recent disputes involving Nongpok Heirok Khul and Theiyong Kom Khul, as well as a reported land-related issue between Langathel and Maring Lamlong Khullen, FoH appealed to all concerned parties not to allow such matters to damage inter-community relations.

The organisation urged village authorities and community leaders to take proactive steps to prevent further tensions and ensure that disputes are resolved peacefully. It stressed the importance of dialogue, consultation and mutual understanding in addressing differences.

FoH further appealed to the public to remain vigilant against attempts to create discord and reiterated that preserving inter-community harmony is essential for maintaining peace, stability and social cohesion in Manipur.
