The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has strongly condemned the killing of two innocent members of the Tangkhul community in an ambush allegedly carried out by Kuki armed narco-terrorists on April 18, 2026, along the Imphal–Ukhrul road.
In a press release, AMSU Information and Publicity Secretary Serto Rengneier Kom stated that such acts of violence are unacceptable and must be unequivocally denounced.
The student body noted that since the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023, the overall situation in the region has continued to deteriorate. It alleged that Kuki armed groups have repeatedly targeted civilians, leading to loss of lives and destruction of homes and villages.
AMSU further expressed concern that there appears to be a systematic attempt to displace indigenous communities from their ancestral lands.
The AMSU also questioned the effectiveness of security measures in the state, stating that despite the presence of law enforcement and central forces, such incidents continue to occur. It raised concerns among the public regarding whether adequate steps are being taken to ensure the safety of civilians.
Warning of potential consequences, AMSU stated that continued inaction could erode public trust and further aggravate the already volatile situation in Manipur.
