All 60 MLAs must act unitedly to restore peace in Manipur: L. Tomba

Social worker and President of the Foundation for Rural Urban Development, L. Tomba, has stated that peace can be restored in Manipur if all 60 MLAs act collectively with sincerity and unity.
Speaking on the prevailing situation in the state, Tomba said that Manipur is currently facing multiple crises, including incidents of killings, violence, and attacks on civilians, including women and children. He alleged that despite the presence of central forces across various locations, armed Kuki militant groups have continued to carry out attacks using bombs and firearms.
He further claimed that the ongoing situation reflects a “proxy war” in the state and pointed out that many internally displaced persons (IDPs) are still unable to return to their homes and continue to live in relief camps under difficult conditions.
Tomba asserted that if elected representatives, including MLAs and ministers, come together and take a firm stand, decisive steps could be taken within a short period to address the crisis. He added that the Centre is aware of the situation and would be compelled to respond if there is a united and strong initiative from the state leadership.
He also remarked that the Centre understands the concerns of MLAs who are committed to safeguarding Manipur’s integrity, but stressed that without unity among them, resolving the ongoing conflict would remain difficult.
Appealing to the legislators, Tomba urged them to rise above differences, provide clear leadership to the people, and work collectively to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Highlighting the sacrifices made by past generations, he said the present generation has a responsibility to safeguard the future. He also called upon civil society organisations, Meira Paibi groups, and voluntary organisations to contribute constructively by adopting appropriate policy measures rather than relying solely on general strikes and shutdowns, which often affect the daily lives of the public.
Tomba stressed the need for coordinated efforts from all sections of society to bring lasting peace and stability to the state.
