Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on February 10 described the recent violence in Litan area of Ukhrul district as unfortunate and urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
Speaking to reporters at Bir Tikendrajit Imphal International Airport on the sidelines of the launch of a new SpiceJet flight, the MP said the incident had aggravated an already fragile situation and caused hardship to innocent civilians. He said such violence only leads to escalation and suffering, rather than resolving underlying issues.
Bimol stressed that unchecked violence benefits no section of society and warned that civilians invariably bear the brunt of such unrest. He called on the government to act decisively to ensure peace and prevent the spread of instability in the area.
Raising concerns over reports of armed individuals moving freely in the violence-affected zone, the MP questioned the implementation of ground rules under the Suspension of Operations arrangement with militant groups. He said the presence of armed men on the ground pointed to serious lapses in enforcement.
The MP reiterated the need for accountability and effective administrative measures to restore normalcy and ensure that law and order are firmly maintained in the region.
