A 24-hours bandh called by banned armed group National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) against the signing of merger agreement by the then king of Manipur Budhachandra under duress of Indian Union has affected the normal life in the city today.
Public and private vehicles were seen less plying on the road. Most of the markets including Ima Keithel, Khwairamband Keithel, Paona Keithel, Thangal Keithel in the city remained closed. Public places including government and private offices, educational institutions also remained closed.
Media, electricity, water supply, medical and other essential services as well as religious purposes were exempted from the purview of bandh.
King Budhachandra signed the agreement on September 21, 1949 at Red Lane, Shillong in Meghalaya and came into force from October 15, 1949.
