Prime accused in Nambol ambush arrested- Police

The prime accused in the 19th September ambush on Assam Rifles personnel in Nambol, Bishnupur district, was apprehended today in a joint operation conducted by Imphal West District Police, Bishnupur Police, 33 Assam Rifles, and other security forces. The operation took place in the Kameng area of Imphal West at around 1:00 am.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, Manipur, the arrested individual, identified as Khundongbam Ojit Singh, also known as Keilal, aged 47, from Awang Leikinthabi Awang Leikai, admitted during spot examination that he was a bailed-out member of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and continued to work for the outfit. He also disclosed that he had been arrested earlier on 22 April 2007.
Further investigation revealed that Ojit Singh was directly involved in the ambush on 19 September at Sabal Leikai, Nambol, where he and other militants fired at 33 Assam Rifles personnel before fleeing towards Loktak Lake and hiding their arms and ammunition at a secret location. Based on his revelations, security forces recovered multiple weapons and ammunition, including an A4 rifle with four magazines, an HK rifle with two magazines, two AK rifles with five magazines, an INSAS rifle with three magazines, three lathode shells, 170 rounds of AK ammunition, 216 rounds of M16 ammunition, 67 rounds of INSAS ammunition, a mobile phone, a wallet, and an Aadhaar card.
The police said that examination of the arrested suspect is ongoing and that raids are being conducted to apprehend other individuals involved in the attack. Certain leads have already been established, according to the statement.
