Manipur Police have arrested two individuals allegedly associated with Arambai Tenggol for possession of arms and ammunition and seized a large cache of weapons from them. The arrested duo has been remanded to nine days of police custody.
The two have been identified as Laishram Tondomba Singh (27) of Wangjing Lamding Bazar, Thoubal District, and Tourangbam Amarjit Meitei (20), alias Yaima, of Lamding Mamang Leikai, Thoubal District.
According to police, the seizure included seven HK33 rifles, two M4A1 carbine guns, two Glock .45 auto pistols along with four magazines, 28 empty magazines of HK33 rifles, eight empty magazines of M4A1 carbine guns, 100 rounds of .45 ammunition in four cases, two luggage bags, four mobile phones, two wallets, Rs. 4,430 in cash, two Aadhaar cards, and a four-wheeler with its key.
Meanwhile, Arambai Tenggol issued a clarification distancing itself from the arrests. In a statement signed by Laishram Robason, Control Room Operator of the organisation’s General Headquarters, AT stated that it is committed to indigenous, cultural, and social causes, and has no connection with illegal activities.
The group further maintained that any member found indulging in unlawful acts would be held solely responsible for their actions, which would not be linked to the organisation. It claimed that the arrested duo had acted in their “personal interests” and that the incident bore no relation to Arambai Tenggol.
