The Students’ Front of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) staged a strong protest against the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), denouncing what they described as a biased and misleading report on the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
As part of the demonstration, the protesting students publicly burned copies of the PUCL report, terming it a document that distorts facts and undermines the suffering of the indigenous people of Manipur.
The Students’ Front charged that the PUCL report was drafted without a proper understanding of the ground realities and accused it of serving vested political interests. They maintained that the report ignored the voices of victims and communities who have been directly affected by the violence and blockade.
Speaking at the protest, members of the Students’ Front declared that the act of burning the report symbolised the rejection of misinformation and false narratives being circulated in the name of human rights. They asserted that international and national organisations must present impartial accounts instead of shielding groups responsible for violence and displacement.
The Students’ Front further warned that any attempt to malign the image of the indigenous people of Manipur or to provide cover to armed groups would be resisted strongly. They urged the public to remain united in defending Manipur’s integrity and appealed to civil rights organisations to base their work on truth, fairness, and transparency.
