Manipur Government has handed over around 400 acres of land for setting up of proposed National Sports University at Yaithibi Khunou, Thoubal District to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports today here at 10am.
The land comprising an area of 336.93 acres at Village No. 44-Yaithibi Khunou, Thoubal District was formally handed over to Ministry of YAS during a function attended by Okram Ibobi, Chief Minister of Manipur; Prithviraj Singh, Parliamentary Secretary, YAS/Tourism; P Brojen, MLA; PC Lawmkunga, Chief Secretary of YAS, Government of Manipur and officials from the Ministry of YAS.

A team led by Secretary (Sports), Government of India has visited the state to identify the proposed site for the establishment of National Sports University in Manipur on Aug 1-2, 2014.
Considering the importance of the Sports University for being the first of its kind in the country, the State government has decided to provide approximately 400 acres of land looking at the scope for the future expansion of the University, said a release from the CM Secretariat.
With this handing over of the land the National Sports University is expected to come up very soon in the state.
