The Alumni of DM College of Science (1996-XII and 1999-TDC batch), in collaboration with We Care Foundation and Yaima Eye Hospital, jointly organized a free medical check-up and eye care camp at the RUSA-run Senior Citizens’ Home at Laiching Nongpok Kakching.
During the camp, nine elderly persons with cataract were examined, and in the first phase, six were selected for free cataract surgery. Yaima Eye Hospital will perform the advanced and highly expensive phacoemulsification procedure, which carries very low risk, enabling the elderly patients to regain clear eyesight.
In addition, two elderly persons with serious retinal problems were identified and will be further examined by specialist doctors. Other senior citizens also received necessary medical consultations during the camp.
Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary of RUSA and the residents of the home expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the alumni team, highlighting that such humanitarian service brought joy and relief to many elderly persons who have no one to look after them.
