KMA celebrates unity and patriotism in Bengaluru

The Karnataka Meitei Association (KMA) successfully organised its flagship event, “In the Spirit of the Patriots: A Celebration of Unity & Excellence,” bringing together members of the Meitei community from across Karnataka for a day of remembrance, recognition, and cultural pride.
The programme honoured the legacy of patriots, felicitated meritorious students, and strengthened community bonding through talks, cultural performances, and interactive sessions.
The event was graced by Social Scientist Dr. Dhanabir Laishram as Chief Guest, with Professor Dr. Upendra Nongthomba from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, ISRO Scientist Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam, and women’s rights activist Urmila Chanam as Guests of Honour. Special invitees included social activist Rohan Philem, actor-singer Hamom Sadananda, and fashion entrepreneur Robert Naorem, along with other distinguished personalities from sports, academia, and the arts. The guests delivered motivational speeches focusing on Meitei unity and the importance of collective responsibility in shaping the future.
In his welcome address, KMA President Subhas Takhellambam underscored the need for unity in the current socio-political context of Manipur. He warned that despite the community’s rich culture and history, isolation and lack of collective action could pose a risk to its future. “Building unity, community spirit, and patriotic spirit is very important wherever we live. That is why we have organised this event,” he said. He further reminded that Meiteis must come together not only for cultural celebrations but also in solidarity movements on core issues, following the sacrifices of their ancestors.
Explaining the vision of KMA, Subhas noted that the youth-led, non-profit organisation was formed by like-minded professionals in Bengaluru. “We may not have enough funds, but our vision is big. We believe that if we serve our people with courage, humility, and integrity, hundreds will stand with us,” he said.
The highlight of the event was a Felicitation and Recognition Ceremony for outstanding Meitei students in schools, colleges, and universities across Bengaluru, as well as youth achievers in sports. The programme concluded with a Manipuri Folk Dance Contest and patriotic songs performed by young artists, leaving the audience inspired and energized.
