Awareness programme on Food Fortification and Good Manufacturing & Good Hygienic Practices held in Kakching

To promote the concept of fortified foods to enhance the safety, quality and nutritional value of food distributed through Government schemes, a one-day awareness programme was held today under the supervision of the Kakching District Administration.
The one-day awareness programme on “Food Fortification and Good Manufacturing & Good Hygienic Practices” was organised by the Food Safety Administration, Kakching in collaboration with the ICDS Project, Kakching, Department of Social Welfare at the Auditorium Hall of the Library and Information Centre, Kakching.
The programme promoted the concept of fortified foods, which are foods enriched with essential vitamins and minerals. At the event, experts opined that the fortified foods enhance the safety, quality and nutritional value of food distributed through the Anganwadi centres.
The programme was graced by Dr. Th. Rajen Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Kakching as Chief Guest; Ningthoujam Parango Singh, District Programme Officer, ICDS Kakching as Functional President and N. Debendro Singh, Designated Officer, Food Safety Administration Kakching as Guest of Honour.
Subject expert S. Surendro Singh, Food Safety Officer, Kakching delivered a presentation on the topic “Food Fortification and Good Manufacturing and Hygienic Practices”, stressing on the role of fortified food in combating nutritional deficiencies. This was followed by a demonstration on testing of food samples by Ch. Sanajaoba Meitei, State Food Analyst of Medical Directorate.
Nongthombam Pushpalata, Supervisor, ICDS Kakching moderated today’s programme. The awareness programme was attended by Anganwadi workers, helpers, officials and others.
