Mother and son killed in road accident

In a tragic incident, a mother and her son lost their lives in a road accident that occurred in front of Thoubal District Hospital this morning, shortly after they had visited the hospital for a check-up.
The deceased have been identified as Soibam Ongbi Premila Devi (48), wife of S. Manithoi, and their son Soibam Arjun (20). Both were residents of Thoubal Achouba Pakhangkhong Leirak, according to official reports.
The incident took place when the duo, riding a Kinetic Honda, had just exited the hospital’s Dental OPD and were heading home. As they reached the road divider near the hospital gate, a Tata DI vehicle bearing registration number AS01DC4158, which was transporting packed drinking water from Imphal to Kakching, struck them from behind.
Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision caused the mother and son to fall under the vehicle. Locals rushed to the spot and lifted the vehicle to retrieve the victims. Premila died on the spot, while Arjun succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Raj Medicity Hospital in Imphal.
The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to JNIMS morgue for post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, Thoubal Police Station registered a case and seized the Tata DI vehicle and its driver.
