The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, today attended the 125th birth anniversary celebration of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee at the Palace Auditorium of the Manipur State Film Development Society, Palace Compound, Imphal.
As part of the commemorative programme, Governor Bhalla offered floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Mookerjee. A documentary film showcasing the life, ideals, and contributions of Dr. Mookerjee was screened during the event. Artists from Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College also presented a dedication song to honour the occasion.
In his address, Governor Bhalla described Dr. Mookerjee as a towering figure in India’s modern history — a freedom fighter, visionary statesman, and intellectual whose legacy continues to inspire generations. He remarked that Dr. Mookerjee played a vital role in shaping the political and educational landscape of independent India, and was a staunch advocate of national integration.
The Governor also recalled Dr. Mookerjee’s historic role in the integration of Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian Union. Referring to his iconic declaration — “Ek desh mein do Vidhan, do Nishan, do Pradhan nahi chalenge” — the Governor said it symbolised Dr. Mookerjee’s resolute stand for a united India under one constitution.
Calling upon citizens, especially the youth, to draw inspiration from Dr. Mookerjee’s life, Governor Bhalla urged everyone to uphold the ideals of selfless service, national unity, and constitutional integrity which he embodied throughout his life.
