The Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation (RNYOM-NTL) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing construction of the German Road (Tiger Road), a project that connects Churachandpur and Kangpokpi via Jaojangtek, Kolten, and Kangchup foothills. In a press release issued today, the organisation warned that the road, which traverses through several Naga-inhabited villages including Ichum Kabui, Natok Kabui, and Charoi Pandongba, poses a serious threat to the safety and security of the Rongmei Naga community.
According to the RNYOM, the road construction—allegedly carried out under the influence of Kuki militant groups—is viewed as a strategic move aimed at securing territorial advantages, thereby undermining the fragile peace among communities in the region. The organisation fears that this initiative, along with the proposed installation of a Suspension of Operation (SoO) camp for Kuki-Zo militants and the alleged planned settlement of non-Manipuri speakers, particularly immigrants from Myanmar, could destabilise communal harmony and fuel fresh conflict.
“The construction of the road is nothing but a strategic line drawn for their advantages while jeopardizing the security of other communities,” stated RNYOM-NTL President Singthoiling Kamei. He warned that such actions, whether consciously or unconsciously, could lead to a “most regrettable situation.”
The press statement further urged the government, security agencies, and all stakeholders to refrain from supporting or executing such projects. RNYOM-NTL called for an immediate halt to all related activities and urged communities to avoid reigniting communal tensions that have historically plagued the region.
Describing the developments as a disrespect to the sacrifices and dignity of the Rongmei Naga people, the youth body declared its resolve to resist any form of humiliation and reiterated its commitment to justice and peaceful coexistence.
The RNYOM’s appeal comes amid rising sensitivities around ethnic tensions in Manipur, with the organisation emphasizing the need for respectful dialogue, historical recognition, and genuine efforts towards peace.
