Two arrested with suspected heroin in Kanglatongbi following morning road mishap

Two individuals were arrested with suspected heroin after a motorcycle accident led to a police search at Kanglatongbi Bazar Board area early Wednesday morning, according to police sources.
As per official information shared by Imphal West Police, the incident occurred at around 7:10 AM when a telephonic message was received from Head Constable Rafijuddin, Post Commander of Kanglatongbi Naka Post, reporting a road accident involving a Royal Enfield motorcycle (registration number MN01AF-4348). A police team, including women personnel, was immediately dispatched to the spot.
Upon reaching the scene, the police team identified the motorbike occupants through the help of locals. The rider was identified as HR Mathanmi (48), son of HR Thatwon, a resident of Tanrui Village in Ukhrul district. The pillion rider was identified as S. Mery (47), wife of P. Roland from Khongdei Ngawar, Senapati district.
While assisting the duo for a medical examination, a black polythene packet reportedly fell from the possession of the woman. Upon checking the packet in the presence of two independent witnesses, the police found two red-coloured soap caps, each containing a transparent polythene packet suspected to be filled with heroin powder. The packets were marked as Exhibits A and B and were found to weigh 11 grams each, totalling 22 grams including the plastic pouches.
The soap caps were repacked, sealed in a yellow paper envelope marked as Exhibit C and formally seized along with a REDMI mobile phone bearing mobile number 7085187393. The seizure and arrest of S. Mery were carried out at 8:00 AM and 9:10 AM respectively.
Further, the Royal Enfield motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the contraband, along with another REDMI mobile phone with number 8131942095, was seized from HR Mathanmi at 9:00 AM. He was subsequently arrested at 9:15 AM, police informed.
The arrested individuals and the seized items have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action, police said.
