The security cover for former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has been significantly reduced, with only six personnel now assigned to him, according to official sources. The reduction follows closely on the heels of N. Biren Singh’s meeting with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday.
Previously, N. Biren Singh was provided a team of 17 security personnel. However, a recent directive from the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur, has ordered that all personnel assigned to the former Chief Minister — apart from the newly designated six — must report back to their parent units with immediate effect.
Sources familiar with the development revealed that the revised security team comprises three Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), one Head Constable, and two Constables. No official statement has been released publicly by the state police or the government regarding the reasons behind the decision.
The timing of the order has sparked speculation, coming just a day after N. Biren Singh met with Governor Bhalla to discuss the prevailing situation in the state, including the Gwaltabi incident and concerns surrounding internally displaced persons and the ongoing ethnic unrest.
