Slow Loris rescued and released

Chandel, May 4:

A mature Slow Loris (Nycticebus bengalensis) was rescued and safely released into the dense forest of Charangching today by a team led by Dr. N. Munal Meitei, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Chandel Forest Division, along with his staff.
Dr. N. Munal Meitei said that encounters between wild animals and humans—particularly involving Slow Lorises—have become more frequent in recent times. He attributed the trend to rising temperatures and widespread deforestation, which have resulted in habitat destruction and food scarcity for wildlife.
“Incidents like these are becoming common because we humans are destroying their natural habitats. The increase in temperature and lack of adequate food force them to stray into human settlements,” he explained.
Dr. Munal appealed to the public not to harm wild animals that wander into human habitation. Instead, he urged people to inform and hand them over to the nearest Forest Department office for appropriate action.
