MMWO questions if President’s Rule in Manipur will mirror Jammu & Kashmir

IT News
Imphal, Feb 20:

The Manipur Meitei-Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has expressed concerns over the worsening situation in the state and the possibility of the Central Government imposing President’s Rule (Suspended Animation), similar to its approach in Jammu & Kashmir. The prolonged ethnic violence and ineffective governance have raised apprehensions about Manipur’s security and territorial integrity.
Addressing reporters at the MMWO office in Hapta, Imphal East, Vice President Chesam Achouba stated that despite the Centre’s continuous monitoring, the state administration has failed to restore normalcy. With nearly two years of conflict since the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023, demands for direct intervention from New Delhi are growing. Reports suggest that the Centre may be considering President’s Rule as a means to stabilize the deteriorating law-and-order situation.
However, the delay in taking a decisive step has fueled speculation about the Centre’s intentions. Concerns have emerged that the prolonged unrest could result in administrative restructuring similar to what was seen in Jammu & Kashmir, potentially affecting Manipur’s territorial integrity.
Despite mounting calls for change, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has not stepped down, while discussions about appointing a new leader under a stable government continue. Observers question whether the BJP and its allies are strategically maintaining the current state of affairs for political advantage.
As uncertainty persists, public frustration continues to rise. Calls for decisive leadership and a concrete resolution strategy intensify, while the prospect of President’s Rule remains a focal point of discussion.
