Imphal, Feb 2:

The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has raised concerns over the ongoing drug crisis in Manipur, stating that while the violence since May 3, 2023, has claimed fewer than 300 lives, the drug war has taken a far greater toll, resulting in thousands of deaths. In a press release, FoH expressed disappointment over the continued neglect of the drug menace.
The statement alleged that the enemies are attempting to weaken annihilate the indigenous communities of the state through various means. It acknowledged the efforts of the Manipur Government in destroying thousands of acres of poppy plantations but stressed that the battle is far from over. The organization urged the people of the state to take responsibility in countering this challenge.
According to FoH, even before the May 3 conflict, drugs had deeply affected every corner of the state. It alleged that some individuals continue to profit from the drug trade, with the involvement of certain Kuki groups. The organization stressed that drug abuse affects not just the Meitei community but all communities in the state. Therefore, it called for collective efforts to combat this issue and protect future generations.
The Federation of Haomee urged the people to support the government in its fight against drug abuse, stating that the problem cannot be tackled by the authorities alone without public cooperation.
