The inaugural function of the 1st Manipur Yogasana Championship, 2024, organized by the Manipur Yoga Society, was held this morning at the Singjamei Community Hall, EGC Complex.
The event commenced with the arrival of yoga enthusiasts, athletes, invitees, and dignitaries. The lighting of the ceremonial lamp was led by Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Minister (MAHUD and RD&PR), who attended as the Chief Guest. Guests of Honour included T. Phulen Meitei, Director of Youth Affairs & Sports Department, Government of Manipur; Dr. Sinam Rajendra Singh, Patron of Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Haridwar, and Retired Professor and HoD of Urology at RIMS; and N. Jeevanmala Devi, Social Activist.
The function was presided over by Dr. Basudev Singh, President of the Manipur Yoga Society and Chairman of the 1st Manipur Yogasana Championship. Following an opening song, “Sana Leibak Manipur,” performed by the yoga players of Singjamei Sorokhaibam Leikai Patanjali Yoga Centre, speeches were delivered by the dignitaries, emphasizing the significance of yoga in fostering health and wellness.
The event proceeded with the commencement of the championship, featuring participants across various age groups. Categories for the first day included Senior (23–40 years), Masters-I (40–50 years), Masters-II (50–65 years), and Masters-III (65 years and above). The second day will feature Novices (6–10 years), Sub-Junior (10–14 years), Junior (14–18 years), and Youth (18–23 years).
