Violence erupted anew in Jiribam District today as militants targeted a village within the area. The attack commenced around 5 am near the Borobekra police station, with militants employing advanced weaponry and explosives, as reported by officials. The atmosphere remains charged as security forces actively engage with the threat. The exchange of gunfire persisted until 7 am, with combined security units closely monitoring the situation to avert further conflict. An investigation is currently underway to identify the assailants.
According to the Jiribam district police, three houses belonging to the Meitei community were set ablaze by Kuki militants, with additional damage inflicted by explosives. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police confronted the attackers in a fierce firefight, prompting the deployment of extra security personnel to the region for support. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties thus far. This incident coincided with security forces evacuating vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, women, and children, to safer areas.
“Random gunfire has been reported in various locations, including Jiribam district. Thanks to the efforts of the security forces, the situation has been largely contained,” stated Rajiv Singh, Director General of Police (DGP) during a media briefing at the 133rd Manipur Police Raising Day event in Imphal. He further noted that additional security forces have been dispatched to prevent any further escalation of violence.
