Imphal, Oct 8:
Senior journalist and former member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission, Yambem Laba, was detained from his residence in Uripok Yambem Leikai this morning. Known for his vocal criticism of the N. Biren Singh government and for recently establishing the Good Governance Party, Laba’s arrest, according to sources, is not related to his political activities.
While the police have remained tight-lipped about the exact reasons for his detention, a source revealed that Laba was taken into custody in connection with a case involving a “kangaroo court.” The complaint, reportedly filed by a woman at the Imphal West police station, alleges that she was threatened at gunpoint by one of Laba’s colleagues in his presence over the repayment of borrowed money. Following this complaint, Laba was detained for his involvement in the incident, the source added.
