Students stage protest to save lives of thousands living on Thoubal River

Thoubal, April.27:

Large number of students from various schools in Thoubal district today form human chain on the side of National High way 2 demanding preservation and protection of Thoubal River.
Thousands of People living on the river or living on the side of the Thoubal River are in danger as the level of pollution in the River is high. Thousands of people residing on the bank of the river now fear spread of epidemic from the river.
The protest was staged under the aegis of the Committee on Conservation of Thoubal River
Students’ group  AMSU, DESAM and MSF also supported the protest.
Slogans like – “No Water No Life”, “Dirty Water Leads to Many Diseases”, ”Our River Our Life”, “Our Thoubal River is Dying Let’s Revive Our Thoubal River” amasung “Save Thoubal River” were displayed during the protest.
The students’ bodies had urged the government to take up measures of cleaning the Thoubal river by April 26 and warned them of mass agitation if failed to do so.
