ANSAM Pays Fitting Tributes to Students killed in the Line of Duty

Chandel,June.19: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and Naga Students Union,Chandel Remembrance Day in memory of the students who were killed in the line of duty for Naga people at ANSAM Martyrs’Park, Komlathabi, Chandel today.
The Remembrance Day was observed in memory of Shelley Chara, Ng Sanii, Ashur R Jangvei, Gemcliff Zimik, Nanthiurai Abonmai, Dikho Loshou, Neli Chako, Ramkashing Vashi and Mayopam Ramror who were killed under different circumstances.
The Hundreds of people including UNC President Gaidon Kamei, President of Naga Women’s Union Asha Wungnam, President of Zeliangrong Students Union Shangruh Gangmei, President of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong Joel Angkang, President of Naga Students Union Chandel, Social Activist Ningthouja Lancha and Advisor of DESAM, were present on the occassion. In addition, families and relatives of the Naga Martyrs, President and colleagues of ANSAM Units, NPMHR a members, village chiefs, pastors and president and colleagues of tribe hohos were also present.
Speaking on the occasions, ANSAM President Seth Shatsang said that ANSAM was founded as a collective effort, voice and conscience of the Naga students to safeguard Land, people and to secure political future of the Naga people. Saying that the land of the Nagas is not free from forced occupation and moreover the colonial agenda of India which is still not over, the Naga people must probe deeper into the government’s intention and interest in taking away people’s sovereignty over the land, he added.
The ANSAM president further said, ‘We salute the supreme sacrifice made these nine martyrs to protect the historical and political rights of the Nagas to live as one people. Their sacrifice continues to uphold the dignity of the Nagas reassuring our unwavering stand towards our rightful place in the past and in future’.
Apart from observing gun salute in honour of the martyrs, family members of the martyrs were also honoured by presenting gifts.
