Imphal, Sept 12: The veteran congress MLA from Wangkhei Assembly constituency, who had single handedly brought 100s trucks stranded along Imphal- Jiribam road during marathon economic blockade called by Hill base civil society in 2011, Yumkham Erabot has tendered resignation from the Manipur Legislative Assembly unable to bear the corrupt administration of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.
Y. Erabot, who is a critic of the Ibobi government, despite being in the same party, also submitted resignation from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and officially joined the BJP today.
The entry of Y Erabot, the veteran politicians has upset some of the JP political workers who aspire to contest election in the coming legislative Assembly election scheduled in the early part of 2017, but state BJP leaders applause the joining of the veteran politician and orgnised a grand reception ceremony at its party head office located at Keishampat Nitaipat Chuthek.
K. Bhabananda, President BJP Manipur Pradesh, Th Chaoba, convener of state election Management committee, Leader of the Legislature’s Wing MLA Kh Joykishan singh, State General Secretary (adm) MLA Th. Bishwajit Singh, and State vice president M. Asnikumar Singh, State Vice President MD. A.R Khan, State General Secy. Media N. Nimbus Singh, State Spokesperson N. Mangi Singh and Rk. Shivachandra Singh offered warm reception to the former Congress MLA, who had newly enrolled to the BJP.
Speaking on the occasion state BJP President K. Bhabananda Singh lauded Erabot on his sincerity, courage and honesty.
“If you tell me to name a politician who is honest, sincere and courageous then Yumkham Erabot is the only person”, Bhabananda said.
Indirectly hitting to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh for his unabated support to his nephew O Henery, Bhabananda said that the veteran politician who had dedicated whole his life for the cause of politics has been victimize in the last 15 years, despite the fact that he got elected in Congress party.
“ By joining the BJP after resigning from congress party, Y Erabot has proved that there is no place for honest person in the Congress party”, Bhabananda added.
Y Erabot Singh, in his speech said that he chose BJP as the general public wants the government to bring a progressive change to the existing corrupt system and highly incapable congress ruled government in the state.
On the matter of submitting resignation from the Manipur Legislative Assembly, it is being told that Y Erabot wanted to remain clean in politics and he does not want to continue as MLA as he was elected from the party ticket. The corrupt and scandals in the Congress led government had made him decided to resign from the post and the decision was taken in consultation with his supporters of his constituency.
Yumkham Erabot Singh has been elected 6 times as MLA from Wangkhei Assembly Constituency as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the year 1980,1984,1995,2002,2007 and 2012. He had served as Minister of State in charge of FCS and local self Government in 1980-1981, Cabinet minister in charges of FCS in 1981-1983, Minister in Charge of Public Health Engineering Department in 1995-97, Minister in Charge of Education, Social Welfare, Art and Culture in 1997-98, Minister in Charge of Co-operation and Commerce and Industries (2007-2012) and Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution (2007-09).
