Imphal, Sept 1: The Mid-Day Meal Workers’ Union, Manipur (MDMWUM) has demanded increment of wages for the Mid-Day Meal workers and immediate implementation of minimum wages.
In a press statement, N Indulaba Devi, Secretary of MDMWUM said that the current wages of mid-day workers of Manipur is Rs 1,200 only which is given as honorarium wages. Unfortunately the wages is also not given regularly by the concern department, sometimes the workers use to receive less than Rs 1000 only. This is exploitation of rights for the workers, she added. N Indulaba Devi also said that in the other states like Kerela, mid-day meal workers have already received Rs 7700 per month and Rs 350 per day including different maternity benefit from the concern department but in a state like Manipur such facilities for the workers is far from imagination. Regarding this, the union are trying their level best to make avail of the right wages for each mid-day workers of the state. All the benefits which is already given by Social Security Act must be given immediately, it cannot be remove anytime the concern department want, she added.
Meanwhile, in her press statement, N Indulaba Devi said that the union will support the one day general strike called by Co-coordinating body of trade union and federations demanding the rights for the workers on September 2, 2016.
