Joint Students’ Co-ordination Committee, a conglomerate of six students’ bodies including All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students Union (KSA), Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and AIM today said that the students’ body will observe the 63rd Death Anniversary of Hijam Irabot will be observed in all the schools and colleges of the state.In a press conference held today at the office of SUK, convenor of the students’ body Th Premanda said that the joint students’ body is all set to observe the 63rd death anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot on September 26 across all schools and colleges of Manipur. He appealed the student bodies of all schools and colleges to pay fitting tribute to the Lamyanba on the day.“This is the first time that the student bodies is observing the day. It is to show our respect to the great leader and in remembrance to the declaration made by Hijam Irabot on a meeting held on September 29 and 30 of 1938 for setting up of schools at all villages and made compulsory education for all girls”, Premanda added.The students’ body’s convenor further appealed all NGOs, civil society organisations, students body not to call general strike or bandh on the day.He said that the present day student had lack understanding of Hijam Irabot as the activities and philosophy of Hijam Irabot has not been remembered by the present day generation.
