As law & order restored, Sadar Hill civil bodies and students want to organise main event of Kut Festival at Kangpokpi

Imphal, Oct 4: Kuki civil societies and students’ bodies of Kangpokpi district want the State level Kut festival to be held at Kangpokpi district head quarter. However, the decision to hold the festival at the state capital Imphal in the meeting of the State Level Kut Committee (SLKC) Manipur the state level Kut programme have disappointed the Kangpokpi based Kuki bodies.
The decision to hold the festival at Imphal was adopted in the meeting of the SLKC held on October 2, 2017.
As per a statement signed by Tonglen Khongsai,  General Secretary, United Welfare Committee, Kangpokpi district, Ngamkhohao Haokip, General Seceratry KSO, Sardar Hill and Seimang Khongsai, President Kuki Inpi, Kangpokpi district, the representative from the Kangpokpi district failed to turn up in the said meeting, however a similar meeting was held on the same day by the civil societies and students’ body in Kangpokpi district where they resolved to urged the authority for organising the festival at Kangpokpi district.
“, it is more than ten years that the state level Kut has not been organized in the hills but continuously done in Imphal on ground of bad law and order situation in the hills. Now the situation in the hills has improved and we also would do our best to ensure that the Kut programs are done without any disturbances”, the statement signed by the three leaders said.
Kut Festival is the premiere festival of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo groups of Manipur. Also known as the “Chavang Kut”, it is one of the main festivals of Manipur and is celebrated with great fervour and zest. It is celebrated every year on November 1 throughout the state. For around 10 years the main event was held at 1st Bn. Manipur Rifles, due to the law and order problem of the state.
Kuki bodies from Kangpokpi said that law and order has been restored and they deserve to hold the festival at Kangpokpi. The statement urged the SLKC to review the decision for organising the main event at Imphal.
