3rd International Day of Yoga celebrated across the state; CM bats for yoga for peace and harmony in the state

Imphal, June 21:  With a strong message to keep our body and mind healthy, the 3rd International Day of Yoga, 2017, the International Yoga Day was widely celebrated across the state today, with Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar participating the main event at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium here in Imphal. The celebration was jointly organised by Directorate of AYUSH, National Health Mission, Manipur and Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Manipur.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh along with Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar lead hundreds of Yoga practitioners through a series of poses and breathing exercises.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare L. Jayantakumar Singh, Minister for Social Welfare and Co-operation Nemcha Kipgen, Minister for Forest and Environment Th. Shyamkumar Singh, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Letpao Haokip, Parliamentary Secretary (Home) L. Susindro Meitei, Parliamentary Secretary (Tourism) Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Parliamentary Secretary (RD&PR) H. Dingo Singh, Chief Secretary, DGP and other top civil and police officials participated in the celebration. More than 500 yoga enthusiasts participated in the event.
Highlighting that International Day of Yoga is being celebrated in more than 1 Lakh venues across the country, Prakash Javadekar said that Yoga is a wellness healthy practice or exercise that prevents illness and keep our mind and body healthy. Dedication, determination and discipline are the teachings of Yoga, he added.
Mentioning the importance and significance of Yoga, the Union Minister said that it is the soft power of the country that we have the treasure of knowledge in our traditions so we should never forget and continue to practice that is significantly good. He further said that Yoga is not only confined to India but it is being practised in 190 countries and is celebrated International day of Yoga in these countries. In the last three years, India is transforming and moving in the path of progress with the support and faith of the people of the country, he added.
On the occasion, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that it is the contribution and achievement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to popularise Yoga which spreads the message of peace and prosperity across the world. Stating that people should be encourage to practice Yoga, Chief Minister further said that Yoga is a practice that promotes inner peace and well-being of an individual. If there is no inner peace and well-being of body, there would be no peace and harmony in the State, he added.
Later, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar flagged off Run for Yoga to encourage people to practice Yoga in the State.
The International Yoga Day was also celebrated at Khuman Lampak Ball Bhavan where Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand Singh took part.
Local clubs and other social organisations also celebrated it at the local level. The day was also celebrated at all district headquarters and other parts of all districts.
The day was also celbrated at various part of Thoubal district too.
