CM leaves for Mizoram to attend meet on Indo-Myanmar border issues

Imphal, June 12 : Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh today left the state capital for Aizawl where he will attend a meeting to discuss Indo-Myanmar border issues.The meeting, to be chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, will review the security situation and development activities along the India-Myanmar border, officials said.Besides Biren Singh, the meeting will be attended by Pema Khandu, Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Lal Thanhawla, the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram respectively. DGPs, Chief Secretaries and other top officials of the four states will also attend the meet. The four Northeast states share the border with Myanmar.Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju will also be attending the scheduled meet to be held in the Mizoram capital.Apart from reviewing the present infrastructure on the international border, the meet will also discuss ways to implement projects on development programmes of the border. It will also discuss ways to enhance facilities for smooth cross-border movement of people and also to strengthen border vigil.The 1,643 km long porous India-Myanmar border is guarded by the Assam Rifles, but presence of militants, smuggling of arms and other illegal activities there have been a cause of serious concern for peace, stability and economic activities for both the countries.
