DIPR Imphal, Jan.16: Governor of Manipur Najma Heptullah today graced the inaugural function of Saksham 2017 as the Chief Guest. Saksham 2017 is a month long observation on the theme “Conservation of Fuel is Responsibility of One and All in Society” and is organized by Public Sector Oil and Gas Companies in the State in association with Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India. During the inauguration Governor Najma Heptullah administered pledge to participants which included students, to conserve petroleum products, endeavour to educate young people to avoid wasteful use of petroleum products and use cleaner fuels for environment protection. Speaking on the function as Chief Guest, Najma Heptullah said the initiative taken up by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) by involving young children is a good step in safeguarding their future. March of human progress has been extensively linked with the wealth underneath the earth’s surface. Natural resources like petroleum products have been used in the past without consideration for the future generation, she added. She also urged the students to use alternative source of energy whenever it is feasible. In his speech as Guest of Honour, Chief Secretary Shri Oinam Nabakishore Singh urged people to consciously use natural resources like oil and gas. He said the State Government has already started solar energy schemes. The state government is targeting to generate 50 Mega Watt power by 2022 to fulfill all energy needs, he added. Governor Najma Heptullah in connection with Saksham 2017 festival flagged off a “Walk Rally” attended by students. Students from various schools, officials from Indian Oil Corporation, traders, dealers and transporters also attended the function. The month long festival observed across the country will conclude on 15th February. The festival will have events like Saksham Asian Cycling Championship, Saksham Driving Contest, Walkathon at Petrol/LPG outlets, Saksham Quiz Competition, District Level Conservation Concert and Bicycle Day.
