Various tribal students’ bodies today strongly reacted to the decision announced by the new Vice Chancellor in Charge of Manipur University for starting admission from Monday.

In a joint press meet organised by All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM), All Naga Students’ Union Manipur (ANSAM), Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) HQ and Manipur UniversityTribal Students’ Union (MUTSU)  at the office premises of ATSUM at Nagaram here in Imphal, Joshep R Hmar, President of ATSUM said that the decision to start admission from Monday as announced by the new VC who had taken charge day before yesterday is a wild cat decision as he failed to understand the sentiment and demand of the tribal students. Terming Professor Amar Yumnam, the new VC in charge as inefficient who lack academic qualification, Joshep Hamr said that any  tribal students who admitted and went to the University against the tribal students’ body should face the music by themselves.

The tribal Students’ bodies leaders also demanded immediate resignation of Prof. Amar Yumnam from the post of VC.

Joseph Hmar further said that the University cannot be controlled by immoral individuals and said that until the demand of the Tribal students are fulfilled there will be no going back. The protest will intensify if failed to listen the demand of the tribal students by revoking the decision of the August 8 Academic Council meeting resolution.

The reservation policy for the Manipur University should be the amended Act and not the original one.

The local Media Paibi and local club around Manipur University need to impose public curfew in and around MU not to disturb admission process because if there is physical confrontation happen in MU it will be hard to settle. So, Meira Paibi need to guard MU.

ATSUM need to take the help of court if you are not satisfied with AC resolution rather than flexing muscle on the highway that expose your communal nature. Another is if you are not ready to work in the interest of Manipur, don’t you have any shame to demand your right from Manipur?

Its time for some changes, only then there will be development in Manipur. Its time to support the poor. If the reservation would continue the exists, the VCs decision following the UGC rule is very important to help the poor in need. Those who work harder should be rewarded, only then our state will develop and be able to compete with others.
