Imphal, July 30: After the agitation for introduction of the Inner Line Permit System nearly reach catastrophe with several students sustaining injury in police action, the state government is now showing the movement of their finger tips to the tune of the peoples’ trumpet. Breaking the silence, both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister now said that the government is not against the peoples’ desire for implementation of the Inner Line Permit System, however, both now throw the ball to the center’s court.

After Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh had stated the just concluded state legislative Assembly session about the government’s inability to pass the legislation, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam echoed, calling upon all civil society organizations and the political parties to jointly apprise the central government for implementation of the inner Line Permit System.

Speaking to reporters at the sideline of the inauguration for Gospel Music Concert at Tribal Research Institute yesterday, Gaikhangam said the state government still stands with its decision for introduction of Inner Line Permit System. He said the state assembly had taken resolution twice for apprising the central government regarding the matter. He also clarified that during the UPA government the congress party alone could not take decision as there are other political parties in the government. But now as there is a new government with BJP getting absolute majority it is time for all the people irrespective of political parties or civil society organizations to jointly work and appraise the center for introduction of the Inner Line Permit System.

Surprisingly both the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister had not clarified on the matter regarding the silence of the government when the protest momentum was heated high resulting to injuring of several students. The police had also arrested nearly 50 meira paibis who staged protest against the atrocities of the police.
