Schools closer don’t help; students continue protest; Thangmeiband locals condemn police brutality

Imphal, July 25: Declaration of holidays for schools and colleges in Imphal West and Imphal East did not help the district administration in controlling the students’ agitation demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System. Over 200 students today gathered inside the DM College Campus and continue the agitation for implementation of the Inner Line permit system. As the students tried to storm to the Assembly Secretariat police personnel prevented them from proceeding further beyond the Southern gate of DM College. Like yesterday police fire several rounds of tear gas shell and lathi charged the students.

Later the police team arrested 3 students’ protestors.

AT Thoubal district too students of Paradise Academy, Little Star Secondary School, Waikhom Mani Girls’ College and Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School today gathered at Thoubal Mela Ground at around noon today and tried to throng at the residence of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh at Thoubal Athokpam. The large numbers of students while proceeding towards the residence of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi were stopped by a team of Thoubal Police in front of Thoubal DC office. As the situation went out of control the police team reportedly fire some rounds of tear gas shells to disperse them. There was no report of any injury at the time of filing this story.
