Media sensitization on Smart City held, experts dissect the smart solutions for a smart city

A one day awareness programme based on Smart City organized by All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) was held today at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal.
Addressing the gathering at the occasion, N Gitkumar Singh, Director of MAHUD, Government of India said that the main aim of Smart city is to promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, a clean and sustainable environment and application of ‘Smart solutions’.
“The Smart Cities mission of the government is a bold and new initiative measures which includes core infrastructure like adequate water supply, assured electricity supply, sanitation, including solid waste management, sustainable environment, health and education, safety and security of citizens etc.,” he added.
N Gitkumar Singh also said that Central Government has agreed the proposal requested by the Government of Manipur to include all the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) of Manipur as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
Regarding the present status of implementation of the Smart City Mission, the Director of MAHUD said that the state Government is in the process of preparation of Housing For All Plan of Action and identification of the beneficiaries and every opportunity of being heard will be given to all the citizens before finalization of beneficiary list will be carried out in a transparent manner in a Smart way.
Executive Officer of Imphal Municipal Council, Ng Uttam said that the propose of the Smart City mission is to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local area development and harnessing technology especially those technologies that leads to smart outcome.
He also presented the smart solutions that are needed to take up as part of the Smart City Mission.
