Tribunal of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has disqualified 3 Trinamool Congress MLAs under the 10th Scheduled of the Indian Constitution. The verdict for disqualification of the MLAs was announced by the speaker today at his office room at Manipur Legislative Assembly. The Trinamool Congress MLAs disqualified today are MLA Khumukcham Joykishan of Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency, MLA O Lukhoi of Wangoi Assembly constituency and MLA Th. Bishwajit of Thongju Assembly constituency. The verdict for disqualification of the three MLAs was announced today in connection with four cases filed against them for disqualification at the speaker’s tribunal. Petitioners of the case filed for disqualification of MLA Khumukcham Joykishan Singh are Oinam Kabi Singh, W Nonglentomba Meitei and MLA Shyamkumar. In favour of the petitioner Advocate S. Yaima, Advocate L. Ayangleima, HS Paonam and S. Gunabanta represent as the counsellor and for the respondent Advocate Ahanthem Romenkumar and H. Prabir kumar attended as counsels. As for MLA O Lukhoi of Wangoi Assembly constituency and MLA Th. Bishwajit of Thongju Assembly constituency, the petitioners is MLA Th. Shyamkumar and advocate HS Paonam and advocate S. Gunabanta represented as his counsel. Advocate A Romenkumar and Advocate H. Prabir kumar appeared as the respondent’s counsels.
It may be mentioned that final hearing for the disqualification case filed by petitioner Kabi Singh and W. Nonglentomba was held on October 27, 2014. However, the hearing was reserved with the speaker.
Later, at another hearing in relation to the disqualification case file by MLA Th. Shyamkumar for disqualification of the 3 MLAs the hearing too was reserved with the speaker.
Recently, that is on March 26, 2015, the state unit of the Trinamool Congress had issued an order to revoke the suspension of the three MLAs and thus stated that the disqualification case filed against them has been simultaneously withdrawn. However, ImphalTimes , in its issue of the same day had reported that the hearing of the case has been reserved with the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and the new order for revocation of their suspension and the appeal arrangement of a way to withdraw the case cannot influence the ruling of the speaker which is likely to declare soon.
With the disqualification of the 3 MLAs, by-election for the 3 assembly constituencies should be held within 6 months period as according to the constitution of India.
