Patient party vandalise hospital properties after patient died

Imphal May 2: In yet another doctor-patient confrontation, tension runs high at Advance Hospital, Palace Compound, after the patient party started vandalising the hospital properties today morning over the death of a 65 years old lady patient. The patient identified as Khaidem Ongbi Sanayaima, wife of Ibomcha of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai was declared dead at around 4.30 am today morning. She had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since April 12 this year. According to family source, the patient first admitted to the hospital for stone case at pancreas on February 8 this year. Doctors at the hospital performed surgery on February 12. After the surgery as she had complaints of stomach pain, she was monitored in the Hospital ICU for 24 days. Later she was discharged. However, on April 12 she was again brought to the hospital of the same complaint.
“We were angry because the doctors were not there to give us death certificate”, said a family member.
Soon after the patient was declared death the patient party was ready to take back the patient home for cremation. But when asked to give the death certificate there were no doctor to give. After sometime some of the hospital authority told the patient party to collect the death certificate after some days. On hearing it the patient party started arguing over it and finally turn hostile resulting the destruction of the hospital properties.
Later, at evening Imphal East police summoned both the representatives of the patient party and the hospital authority to settle the matter.
