MU communities begins relay hunger strike; prepares for more intensified protest if fails to remove VC Prof. AP Pandey

The Manipur University community – which comprises members of Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU), Manipur University Staffs Association (MUSA) and Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) begins relay hunger strike from 11 am today at the University complex.
As announced earlier faculty members and  students of Mathematics and Statistic department of the University along with the executive members of MUSU and MUSA started the relay hunger strike. While faculty members of each departments of the University will undergo the protest from 11 am to 4 pm everyday, students of the University under the aegis of the MUSU will continue non-stop till July 21 , President of MUSU M. Dayaman told reporters at the protest site.
Professor of the Mathematics department, M. Ranjit Singh, who is also the spokesperson of MUTA while talking to reporters, said that the MUTA will make no change to the demand for removal of the irresponsible VC Prof. AP Pandey. He said the matter regarding the irregularities committed by the VC has been submitted to all the concern authority including the Union HRD Ministry, Chief Rector as well as to the Chief Minister of the state. He also added that the MUTA representative had met the Chief Rector of the MU, who is also the Governor of the state and also the Chief Minister and presented the grievances of the MU community.
“We (MUTA) have been invited only once by the Chief Minister to talk over the matter, and that was on July 7 , 4 pm but we have cancelled the meeting due to the police excess to a group of college students who were on their way to submit memorandum for declaration of the semester examination”, Prof. Ranjit said. He further said that the MUTA always waits for talk to the concern authority but the circumstances compelled them to cancel the meeting however, the MUTA got another invitation and some representatives of the MUTA will meet the Chief Minister at 5 pm.
He however said that there will be no turning back to the demand for removal of the VC Prof. AP Pandey.
“We will meet the Chief Minister and urge him to do every needful for removal of the VC AP Pandey”, Ranjit said.
Mayanglambam Dayaman, President Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) while talking to media persons while condemning the arson of the Dr. Kamal Indoor stadium said that the act seems to a well plan action by some vested interested persons to sabotage the democratic and peaceful protest of the Manipur University Community.
“We the students of the University condemn the silence of the authority concerns over their silence to the 42 days old protest”, Damand said and added that if the authority fails to do the needful than the MUSU will even stage fast unto death protest.
