MU impasse: No turning back on the demand for removal of VC Prof. Adya Prasad Pandey; Proctor, Assistant Proctor tender resigned

Joint Secretary of the department of Higher Education, Union HRD Ministry, Mr. G.C. Hosur’s visits to the state turn out to be fuelling the anger of the University community despite the fact the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in his face book post had written that G. C Hosur was sent to the state to find an amicable solution to the crisis at MU following his telephonic conversation with the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javedakar.
The momentum of the agitation demanding removal of the Vice Chancellor Prof. A.P. Pandey is rising day after another after Proctor of Manipur University Prof. Sumitra Phanjaobam and the Assistant Proctor of the MU Dr. N. Sanatomba tender their resignation from their respective post. Generally security related matters to ensure safety academic affairs in the state are deal by the proctor and assistant proctor.
Already the academic atmosphere at Manipur University was almost crippled with the resignation of 5 deans – Prof. Rajmuhon, Dean School of Mathematical And Physical Science, Prof. Loken, Dean School of Social Science, Prof. Shantibala, Dean School of Life Sciences, Prof. Arun Shaxena – Dean School Of Human and Environment Science and Prof. Yasawanta, Dean School Of Humanities tender resignation on June 14. Dean of Student Welfare Prof. Khumukcham Tomba was the first to resign following the uproar of the students’ body.
With the resignation of the Proctor and the Assistant Proctor functioning of the Manipur University academic activities will be totally crippled.
Report reaching here said that the denial of the Joint Secretary G.C. Hosur to meet the representatives of the Manipur University Teachers’ Association has been seriously noted by the teachers’ community of the University considering it as an unprecedented humiliation to the Manipur University teacher’s community.
At around 12 noon today a joint meeting of the MUTA, MUSU and the Manipur University Staffs Association was held today at the office of the MUTA. During the meeting the attitude of the Joint Secretary at which he refused to meet the MUTA representative has been condemn. The meeting also unanimously resolved to support the demand of the MUSU for replacement of the VC AP Pandey. The meeting also condemn irresponsible statement by the Joint Secy. HRD at which he stated the Chief Minister to deal the matter by his government and to find an amicable settlement.
After the meeting a sit-in-protest demonstration is being staged at the Manipur University complex starting at 4 pm .
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today invited representatives of the Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) for talk regarding the matter today at 6 pm. However, as of now the MUSU representatives have decided not to meet the Chief Minister as talk about the directives of the Joint Secretary to end the matter has been spread far and wide.
Meanwhile, a highly reliable source with the Imphal Times said that, Prof. Adiya Prasad Pandey having link with the RSS and Sang Parivaar has been lobbying the central authority regarding the matter. Imphal Times source said that the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has been intimated by the VC himself and reported about the present agitation as well as the resignation of Deans as a pressure from anti social element by hinting student body’s nexus with the UGs . The report has been reported forwarded to both the office of the prime Minister as well as to the HRD Ministry.
Imphal Times when dig the matter about such report being forwarded from the state Intelligence agency as well as those central intelligent agency stations at Imphal failed to get any hints of reporting such matter from their side. Another source said that the report was directly submitted to the MHA by some high profile relatives of the VC which can influence the MHA. Imphal Times have reason to trust the report as the Y category status and the received of the 80 lakhs worth bullet proof vehicle was directly approved from the MHA skipping intelligence agency of the state.
